“Canterbury is known as the city with the highest number of rough sleepers in Kent. I started my journey by investigating and searching for the roots of this crisis. My research included interviews with people who are currently and previously homeless, as well as with the people who run a Charity Day Centre dedicated for the vulnerable people in the city.

I concluded that the main reason for the high number of rough sleepers is the lack of Homeless shelter. Currently there is no place in Canterbury that offers a place to sleep for those in need.

Finally, I came up with the conclusion that Canterbury could use a “Transitional Shelter”. This offers a yearlong accommodation and educational program, “Fresh Start Rehabilitation” for those who are keen to make a change. The goal is healthy, healed and changed individuals ready to be employed and housed.”
