This project focuses on Climate Change and how fungi have been fighting the battle alone. Climate Change is a serious issue that I am passionate about and it has not been getting enough attention; it needs to be addressed before it’s too late. Through my research, I found that fungi have been helping Climate Change since even before humans existed. Their functions are vital to the planet’s well-being and humans have completely overlooked them. I wanted to shine a light on these fungi by focusing on two of them to give fungi more attention. By creating these two garments, I wanted to give these fungi the recognition they deserve by illustrating their strength, power, and beauty through these wearable sculptures. I focused on replicating their textures through fabric manipulation and needle felting processes in order to accurately recreate their shapes, forms, and textures and give them the justice they deserve. They are growing on the models and asserting their power over humans by creating a relationship with them and controlling how badly they are treating the environment.

Discovering Forgotten Forest raises awareness for the forgotten fungi in our environment that have been fighting the Climate Change battle alone. It is time that they get the recognition they deserve. We need to work together and humans need to create a strong relationship with fungi to fight Climate Change. They have fought alone long enough and are trying to get our attention through these garments. These fungi are growing onto the models trying to control how badly they treat the environment. They are also trying to create a healthy relationship with them to save the environment. Through my work, I wanted to illustrate how important these fungi are and give them the justice they deserve. It also raises awareness for Climate Change, these fungi, and how humans can work together with fungi and fight Climate Change to save the planet. It’s time for Forgotten Forest to be discovered.

Additionally, to keep this project as sustainable as possible, I used 100% organic cotton and wool roving and naturally dyed everything. My other materials include tulle, recycled polyester, wadding, and wire.
