Kevin De Silva is a 3rd year Fashion Photography student based in London studying at University for the Creative Arts at Rochester. He will be undertaking his Masters degree this September studying MA Luxury Brand Strategy & Business at Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design. His photography work mainly consists of capturing the ‘Youth’ – with his Final Major Project planned to focus on an upcoming music artist, but his latest work features photographing upcoming exhibitions. Kevin De Silva would like to venture out within the luxury, retail industry post-graduation and also continue photography as a hobby. Kevin’s Final Major Project titled ‘The Upcomer’ showcases a male upcoming music artist based in South London and explores his personal identity whilst shooting throughout different parts of South London such as Sydenham, Lewisham & Forest Hill but also taken a turn in photographic styles presenting a ‘drippier’ rap-culture aesthetic and style. His work is presented in the form of a zine alongside a visual interview video and photographs. The approach Kevin takes into this work is he constantly worked alongside the model and listened to his experiences and the references which were given to him and overall gave creative freedom and direction onto him. Adding a more personal feeling to the project. What inspired Kevin’s project was the photographer Ewen Spencer especially his book titled ‘Open Mic’ which sparked his creativity when post-producing the zine. The overall message behind ‘The Upcomer’ was to capture the true essence of the male model growing up in South London as an aspiring music artist. Kevin’s professional networks are listed down below.
