My Final Major Project (FMP) is inspired by the Epsom Derby, in keeping with the design brief of a Spring/Summer Womenswear collection for Ralph Lauren.
I focused on Ralph Lauren’s equestrian theme. Having moved from Birmingham to Epsom to study at the UCA, I looked to my new surroundings for influences that I could include in my FMP. My efforts in research took me to the Epsom Racecourse.
On the visit I was absorbed in it’s surroundings of natural landscapes, architecture and the vintage Jockey uniforms on display. I also included influences of occasion wear seen on it’s infamous Ladies Day. This resulted in a mixture of Sloane and Vintage Sports styles in my collection.
I looked to the American artist Roy Lichtenstein for colours and patterns which were reflected in the spotted fabric of the Morning Coat, the Jockey Shirt and on the gems on the skirt of the Coat Dress.
