Through my interest in coral reefs, I realised from my research that human destruction has a massive effect on coral. We, humans, are killing coral, and without coral, the planet, will be affected in so many ways. It is one of the greatest causes for concerns currently in the world. Water Bodies are sources of food, health, income and energy. Coral helps humans with treatments for cancer, asthma, heart disease and arthritis. It is not only important for humans but for the living species in the sea as it is a home to them. It provides food and shelter. Without coral, we will struggle with health treatments and oxygen, as well as species becoming extinct. Fifty per cent of the Great Barrier Reef is dead. Coral is bleached and its health is in rapid decline. This needs to change.
I decided that it would be crucial for future generations to learn about the effects of human destruction on coral and how they can make a difference as they are next in line for making a good change to the planet. I found from my research that there are many books out there, but they did not exaggerate or mention the effects of human destruction and how humans can change the way they do day to day activities to help make a change.
I realised that there was a gap in the market for a book to educate children on the importance of coral. A factual book that will not only educate them but make them realise what the current threat is to coral and how they can help make a change.
The gap in the market needed to target 6-10-Year-olds, an age where they are capable of reading and understanding current world threats to the ocean.
I realised that the main importance of the book would be to educate the current threats to coral and the problems caused, and then to educate them in what actions can be done to make a difference so that they can do what is needed to save the coral.
