BA (Hons) Animation

Theme

This animation is about the relationship between me and my father. My father is a social worker so our relationship is “supposed to be great,” we talk about everything, except emotions. Therefore, I won’t say we have a close bonding but indeed we know we cared for each other. We are both rational people so we never quarrel, also my father has his own point of view in his role, as a father. I aim to show the audience the father’s education attitude and how daughter takes it, through my personal story. I think there must be some people who are not good at expressing themselves, and they can feel related. I worked on traditional 2D frame by frame animation using mainly ink, watercolour, gouache and crayon. The voice over is an actual recorded phone call between me and my father, and I chose to use an iconic thing in my childhood memories to be the subject which connect the whole film. I used to play basketball when I was a kid, yet I didn’t enjoy that, and my father knew it. I started to play basketball because he was happy to see me playing, but He didn’t let me give up even though he knows I suffered a lot. This was a neglected wound of me.
