My initial idea was to produce a fashion brand for young women that was inspired by the cottage core aesthetic. The brand is called ‘through the fields’.
I have always loved the cottage core aesthetic since I could remember and Romanising the little things in life.
From growing up in the countryside, reading Jane Austen, making handmade goods and having an appreciation for slow living. The pandemic helped me realise this more due to being stuck indoors during lockdown. I went on walks every day during this difficult time and realised my love for the aesthetic had grown.
The final outcome consisted of making a magazine/mini catalogue for the brand which showcased its spring collection for 2022. I produced a cottage core-themed photoshoot, advertising and illustrations for the publication. For inspiration, I researched numerous designers and influences for the brand: Luke Edward Hall, The Brock collection, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and even historical figures such as Marie Antoinette. I am pleased I chose this theme as it is an aesthetic that I am genuinely interested in and I style most of my outfits around it.
I am incredibly proud of my creative development throughout my time here doing this foundation course at UCA. Even looking back at my blog on Tumblr, I can see how I have grown and blossomed from the start. From using computer software which I had never used before to feeling more confident with photography and styling. This course has given me a taste of the creative industry and a vision for my future.
