“REBIRTH” – Give New Life
With the evolution of history, human clothing has never changed from the use of leaves and grass as clothes to the everyday clothing of today’s cotton fabrics. However, with the progress of civilization and history, today’s dress is diverse.
The days when people bought shirts and wore them for years have faded away. In a world where the demand for clothing is growing, consumers only need to wear clothes a few times and can afford to buy more new clothes. The whole business model is built on the premise of “fast fashion” to provide consumers with cheap and fast clothing through a shorter fashion cycle.
My project’s theme is the connection between fast fashion brands and climate change. Climate change, the environment, fashion, and recycling are all factors to consider.
People spend more time and money on beautiful clothes, shoes, and bags to pursue fashion in this era. According to statistics, clothing has become one of the pollutants endangering the world. People consume more than 62 million tons of apparel every year, making the environmental pollution behind the clothing industry the second highest in the world, second only to the petrochemical industry. It is predicted that when the world’s population grows to 8.5 billion in 2030, the clothing industry will surpass the petrochemical industry to become the world’s largest source of pollution. Discarded clothes are usually disposed of by burning or landfill, which causes severe pollution to the environment.
Increase publicity so that people improve the reuse of old clothes through the process of recycling old clothes to make new ones, increase the utilization rate of raw materials for clothes, and even invent environmentally friendly clothes.
For this final project, recycled items and used clothing must be followed by design and paperwork. At first, I looked for information on the environmental impact. I found out that clothing is the second most polluting industry in the world. So with the idea of environmental protection in mind, I came up with the idea of promoting remade clothes. The idea is to transform unused clothes from home, record them on video, and then upload them to various websites. Let people know that handmade bags or other items can be made by themselves at home.
