Kartini, Princess of Java, is a film about an iconic Indonesian activist who advocates for women’s rights. The project began as a personal background of my surroundings, the denim industry. One of my primary sources of inspiration is Indonesian culture, which inspired me to design a contemporary take on the traditional cloth silhouette, Kebaya. I make a sustainable denim collection inspired by Kartini. Using historical muses to frame this idea alludes to historical clothes, a theme that led to the identity of ‘rebellious,’ a brand collaboration with Alexander McQueen.
