MA Interior Design

Theme

The project originally originated from a visit I made in Leeds Victoria Quarter, which is an arcade complex built in 1990. When I stood in it, I was deeply moved.

People still come there today, for various purposes like shopping, resting, it’s still in use, it’s not a museum or forgotten, people can feel it. is worth celebrating.

But I found that the interior design of many stores there often fall into a pastiche or offer a sterile minimalist look that doesn’t attempt to engage with the context.

I would like to protect and highlight the texture of historical buildings, so that the interior balances the traditional architecture with the modernist design features, a tribute to this architectural heritage of the last century.

Combined with the research theme “Music and Space” in the first semester, I designed an immersive restaurant that people can  visit, view, appreciate, rest and enjoy the gourmet food. From the moment you step into the space, the drama is immersive. The audience acts inside, and different storylines are happening simultaneously. Following the spatial sequence I designed, you wander in bright or dark, narrow or empty spaces, look at the framed scenery, immerse yourself in it, and smile at each other when you meet people who appreciate the “work” like you. Walked to the living room and joined the lively party. In the fusion of visual path and walking path, feel the British vintage atmosphere under the modern language. When you’re done with this “journey,” you feel as if you’ve just finished a show in which you’re both the star and the audience.

Based on the projects of the second semester, final realisation  explores the methods of recognizing space, recording and expressing spatial experience in film. The film medium can not only form another interpretation of space, but also appropriately reduce the individuality due to individuality in the process of spreading space experience and cognitive differences that exist. By abstracting the spatial experience into several fragments, and then restoring or reorganizing the fragments according to different orders, the fragments are used to express the original spatial state or to suggest the generation mechanism of a new spatial sequence, which brings great benefits to architecture. The space design explored in the field provides a new perspective. There is a possibility of space design from the perspective of time, all emphasizing the continuous movement and continuous experience of people in space. The film shows the space changes under the advancement of time and the space of people in space through the comprehensive use of multiple narrative languages. The movement of the space is used to enable people to generate corresponding spatial experience, and then complete the reproduction of space. Different from the way of thinking that discussed more about the form and function of space in the past, the study of space experience is to deeply analyze the interrelationships between time, space and events, and the motivation factors and formation rules of events in space.

Each stage is worth pondering , step by step to the climax of interest in the tour until the end, just like the classical music, full of wit and endless aftertaste.

Storyboard 1:3 stories have a common theme-time From the perspective of audience experience, explore stories that may happen in the space.

To be continued... It is just a story that may happened in this space, there are more possibilities.

Storyboard 2-Secret and crime. Clues are things mixed with human emotions, irrational, even violent, and desires. This kind of existence can break the coldness of excessive rationalization of the building itself. It is hoped that architecture can become a part of human social behavior, not just a historical freeze-frame space. Architecture participates in the narrative, people have events inside the building, and events change the building.

With the progress of the incident, the building seems to be able to "speak". The building itself is a witness and an important participant in the unfolding of the whole incident. The distance and proximity of space, the generation and rediscovery of secrets, the circle and the hunt, crime and justice all express specific emotions through different heterogeneous relationships in the composition of the building.
