Hello, I’m Kimberley. In this showcase I have uploaded some work from my final project, project 06. For project 06 I designed a local Spanish secondary school that fits into the local vernacular, respects the environment, and brings the community together. Our site was based in the neighborhood of El Carmen in Valencia.

I decided that a school would be a good choice because there are 526 people aged between 10-19 in El Carmen, it’s mandatory for all teenagers aged between 12-16 to attend a secondary school, in the neighborhood there was no secondary school yet, El Carmen secondary school would be a great addition to the community.

It was important to be that this school was a place where everyone feels comfortable, that it was completely accessible to everyone, so that the disabled user could have the same great user experience as someone who wasn’t disabled. I carefully selected colours, custom designed furniture to suit different lessons, oriented the building to make best use of the sun for light and heat, made flexible spaces that could be used during school hours and after, prioritised the comfort and happiness of students by including a range of flexible learning spaces and break spaces, ensured my choice of materials were respectful to the environment, tried to include as much greenery as possible, and so much more.

Please take a look through for more information. Or feel free to contact me to discuss.
