My final piece is a concept art book for an original graphic novel, named Hinoki Point. It centres around historically rival temples on a fictional secluded island off the coast of Japan, where one temple houses Blind monks and the other Deaf monks. Research for this project included looking at the lives of Shingon Buddhist monks as inspiration, and looking at how disability impacts environments and clothing.
The following images are highlights from this concept art book, showcasing character design, landscapes and general vis dev. I plan to complete this graphic novel within the next couple years. Outside of my work at university, I make risograph prints which I sell at illustration fairs, and I was shortlisted for the 2022 V&A Illustration Awards’ Student Category.
