Mixed recycled materials
For my Final Major Project I wanted to explore my previous sculpture work with clay further, to upscale to a full figure. During my journey I found myself using scrap bits of material underneath clay to bulk it without waste. This then led me to start collecting unwanted material as well as my own rubbish i.e., plastic bottles to build the figure out of.
My inspiration derives from fantasy and imagination, specifically my childhood favourite films including: ‘The Iron Giant’, the Studio Ghibli films, especially ‘Castle in the Sky’ as I loved the design of the Robot Troopers.
I wanted the figure to represent time, how memories are forgotten, abandoned, and neglected in the subconscious mind. How the outer shell is expired, however alive in the mind, shown through the miniature diorama hidden in the head.
