Theme

My final major project is a series of redesigns for Fall Out Boy’s new album ‘So Much For Stardust’. I created a new album cover for this album through research and experimentation in order to develop a design that I feel is reflective of the bands sound and lyrics, as well as leading to many sales of their music, tour tickets and merchandise. My design stemmed from the overarching themes of love and heartbreak, and the effect that has on one’s self image, and through experimenting with collaging, the theme developed to centre around reflection. This design was translated onto mediums such as a cover for vinyls and CDs alongside sleeve designs and a lyric sheet. I then designed the set for an accompanying album tour, with mirror balls being the main focus. I conducted lots of experimentation, considering aspects such as the lighting and materials to be used before discovering the effect created by reflecting light off of discs. This beautiful effect inspired me to cover the ceilings of my venues in tightly packed disco balls in order to unite the performers and audience through the use of reflection. To complete the promotion of this music I began to look into advertising and the importance of making this unique to create my very own advertisement. I used an application called Artivive to make use of augmented reality for an advert that truly stands out and gets people talking. To complete this project, I created merchandise, both in the form of band shirts as well as less traditional items such as downscaled versions of the mirror balls present at the shows.
