Rachelle Bate’s photography draws on documentary practices, often on location in spaces of leisure and relaxation, and regularly shooting on film. Prompted by the observation that the picture-perfect, close-knit, extended family of the family album rarely reflects the reality of daily life, ‘Picture Perfect’ combines archival imagery, new photography made in the family home, and writing from family members to try and piece together the way they portray themselves in albums.
