Ruth Metcalf

My work includes strange twisted faces with different types of expressions pressed together made out of stoneware clay and sculpted using my hands and a fork together. All the exaggerated facial features and faces create a creepy type of human-like monster. The clay was fired with iron and manganese oxides and glazed the inside with a smoky dark glaze which adds to the dark and uncomfortable look of the piece, without taking away from the more detailed features on the outside such as eyebrow hair, the darkened and missing teeth inside of some of the faces mouths, detailed in the back of the mouth and small moles dotted around.
