Cyber-pink is a concept for a roller-derby themed racing game set in a cyberpunk-style universe. It’s hyperfeminine, it’s quirky, it’s avant-garde and over everything else- it’s a whole lot of fun.
My focus for this project was very much the design and concept art elements of the game; for context I will explain the rough gameplay.
I imagine Cyber-Pink to be a hybrid of a traditional 3rd person racing game and a MOBA (massive online battle arena) game. By this, I mean that the main goal of the game would still be to win the race, but playable characters would have unique abilities to use on individual cooldowns to either boost themselves or slow down their opponents. It would run on a number of online servers and ideally be free to play to
account for the lack of high skill-capped competitive games marketed towards feminine individuals.
The characters themselves are extremely central to this project, each one adopting an overriding theme or gimmick through which to brand their identity as roller derby girls. They are intentionally over the top- but I also feel like some of the best game characters are over the top; they are just like us but more exciting! And I really do want people and players to be able to see themselves in these characters and build their own narratives for them.
