I’m a ceramicist who creates playful, functional tableware with the hope of bringing people together around food and drink. My work is shaped by my own experiences of family, shared meals, and the everyday rituals that happen around the table.

I grew up in Maidstone, Kent, where daily dinners were a grounding force in my life. These meals weren’t just about the food, but about what they represented: time together, connection, and comfort. That sense of closeness continues to inspire what I make. Now based in Farnham, Surrey, I’ve developed my deep fascination with tableware, not just as objects, but as vessels that hold meaning, memory, and conversation.

I work mostly in black stoneware clay, which gives a beautiful, tactile depth to each piece. Everything I make is thrown on the wheel, a process I love for its physicality and rhythm. There’s something grounding about feeling the clay respond to my hands, and the flow of throwing keeps me connected to each form I create.

Function is at the heart of what I do. I design my pieces to be used, whether it’s a mug for your morning tea, a bowl shared between friends, or a platter passed around the dinner table. I want my ceramics to live in people’s homes and become part of their daily rituals. I even like the idea that my work might chip or show signs of wear over time, because that means it’s been loved and used.

Glazing is where I get to play. I use bold, expressive marks to create a sense of movement and spontaneity. I like my pieces to feel alive, full of energy, and a bit unpredictable. No two are ever the same, and I embrace that individuality. Each item is an experiment, an exploration of visual texture, colour, and contrast.

Ultimately, I’m trying to make work that feels joyful and approachable. I don’t want my ceramics to sit on a shelf or feel too precious. I want them in people’s hands, part of real moments, whether that’s a quiet cup of tea or a loud, laughter-filled dinner.

As I continue to grow in my practice, I hope to keep developing new ideas and forms while staying true to the same core aim: to make thoughtful, functional pieces that help bring people together.

For me, ceramics is all about connection. The connection between maker and material, between object and user, and most importantly, between people.
