The Seen and the Unseen is a project that delves into the interplay between what is visible and what lies beneath the surface, exploring the tension between vibrant, organic forms and gold’s muted, metallic finish. The process begins with creating intuitive, colourful compositions featuring biomorphic shapes and elements reminiscent of flora. These initial layers are then deliberately obscured by a thick layer of gold paint, meticulously sanded away to reveal abstract, faded forms beneath. This contrast between the exuberant underlying colours and the gold’s muted surface creates a dynamic visual experience. Inspired by the intricate patterns and layered depth of marbled paper introduced to Venice in the 1600s, the project evokes a sense of historical continuity while exploring contemporary personal and cultural identity themes. By deconstructing and reconstructing the painted surface, the work invites viewers to engage deeply, uncovering hidden aspects and evoking a dialogue between memory, psychoanalysis, and the seen and unseen. Through this unique blend of technique and concept, The Seen and the Unseen offers a rich, tactile exploration of the remembered and the forgotten, encouraging curiosity and introspection.
