Anna Malceniece is a photographer, video artist and sound artist whose practice addresses memory, identity and connection with nature. Espiritus directs a love letter to nature in decline, finding hope and despair in our relationship with the planet, combines experimental film with poetry and produced music to depict Malceniece’s memories and relationship with nature through psychedelic visuals and dance. Story follows a female to watch her metaphorical journey drinking indigenous plant medicine to reconnect with Mother Earth. She is prepared to receive countless opportunities for a “new world” through psychedelic shows and immersive adventures. This body of work portrays nature as a mirror of women’s anxieties and desires about climate change. Exploring the disconnection between Earth and humanity through the narcissism and distraction that has enabled it.
