At the core of my Final Major Project is the intention to preserve both the physical heritage and the original purpose of Eastbridge Hospital. Historically, the building served as a place of care and sanctuary for pilgrims, offering rest, safety, and a sense of community. I want to carry this legacy forward by transforming the space into a modern refuge, but this time for young people aged 18–25 who are navigating recovery, mental health challenges, or social disconnection.
I am preserving the historic architecture, including elements like vaulted ceilings, cloistered corridors, and stained glass, ensuring they remain untouched in form but reimagined in use. I’m also preserving the spirit of hospitality and healing which the building was originally built for and shifting its function to meet today’s needs while staying true to its history.
