Do You See?
This project involves a handful of people who are incredibly important to me. They’ve shaped my path, including friends, family, teachers, and fellow artists. Each person has a unique design covering their face—it’s more than just a squiggle.
I’m not naturally affectionate, and expressing my feelings is often awkward for me. To overcome this, I thought of a different way to communicate. I taught myself Mandarin Chinese as a teenager during a tough time, so I decided to incorporate those words into each design.
The designs feature messages in Chinese that express what I want to say to them, but they won’t understand the text due to the design manipulation. It’s a way for me to share my feelings directly, while keeping the meaning private, making the connection even more personal.
It’s a message that only I can decipher although it’s very literally being said to their face.
