KINETIC REQUIEM is an allegorical architectural machine—an experimental spatial strategy aimed at reactivating industrial heritage. Rooted in the historical context of an abandoned railway segment in Gaoqi, Xiamen, it gazes upon the vanishing industrial memory swallowed by the rapid expansion of the city. Amidst the ruins, it attempts to retrieve the fragmented traces of the past and construct a device for dialogue between history and the contemporary.

The project inserts a dynamic spatial system of “points, lines, and planes” into the original structural framework. A commemorative track traverses the derelict platforms, with existing rails and remnants reinterpreted into a nonlinear sculptural language. Kinetic devices are embedded within the system, sensing the rhythms of urban traffic—temporarily freezing the city’s velocity and noise into moments of spatial rotation and breath.

The monument inscribes not only the marginalized past but also embodies the hopes of an evolving urban future. The track leaps through space like a roller coaster, responding to the undulations of history. On the ruins, rusted steel murmurs continuously, as if playing a contemporary symphony of speed, memory, and oblivion. It stands as both a tribute to what was and an imagination of what might be.
