This project is part of my final major project for my bachelor’s degree. I am exploring the cultural identity of my hometown and focusing on one of the iconic symbols of Hong Kong: neon signboards. I named this project title as HKNEON.

Looking at my once-familiar home, it now feels increasingly distant. I want to use graphics to preserve Hong Kong’s unique culture through its iconic neon signs before they are demolished. These signs blend Western and Chinese cultures and represent the city’s identity. They are a fusion of typefaces and characters, serving as tangible manifestations of the city’s rich heritage and storied history. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, they are imbued with profound meaning and serve as beacons of identity and belonging for generations of Hong Kongers. Cooperate with the busy London cityscape to highlight the neon signs as a unique rhythm.
