Surveillance is a series looking into the different ways we as humans are constantly being watched and the lack of privacy we have in today’s age. With the rise of technology we are not only being watched by CCTV, but also by our devices. Surveillance thrives both in real life and on social media, blurring the lines between public and private.

The series is divided into three sections, each section looking at a different aspect of being under observation :

Paparazzi and Celebrity Culture : A look at the media’s obsession with public figures, specifically focusing on early 2000s paparazzi culture and scandals and how they are consumed by the public.

Uniformity and Order : Influenced by George Orwell’s 1984 book and the Panopticon theory. The section explore themes of control, conformity and the lack of individuality within the system of surveillance.

Beyond the Lens : This explores a more intimate type of surveillance, from behind closed doors to behind-the-scenes in the studio, a shift towards the viewer becoming the observer.

Through fashion imagery this work shows how surveillance is not only a constructed system, but a feeling of being watched, controlled and exposed.
