Theme

Set within the Kent Downs, this project reimagines the ancient tradition of pilgrimage, not only as a religious journey but also as a secular and meditative experience. Following historic routes leading to Canterbury, the proposal introduces a series of architectural interventions that invite walkers into moments of reflection, rest, and reconnection with the historic landscape.

The proposal includes a museum, accommodation, and communal spaces, all built using locally sourced rammed chalk. The buildings are positioned along an axis, engaging with thresholds, contours, and distant sightlines towards sacred landmarks. This project seeks to offer visitors a distilled experience of pilgrimage, capturing the essence of the journey within a smaller, more focused setting.
