Surrender explores themes of control, authorship, autonomy, dominance and desire through interaction between artist and artificial intelligence. I position AI as an active collaborator and directive force within the creative process. Playing a “game” with AI, collaborating to see what we can create together. An experiment to see how far we push the boundaries together. There is a tension in the work, which asks who is controlling the story, the machine or the human? Through the act of direction, the artwork becomes a performance, Surrender treats each prompt (AI) and response (human) as part of an ongoing dialogue. The photographs document this surreal and unearthly story.
After twenty years as a fashion and music photographer, I expanded my practice to include conceptual and sculptural work exploring self-identity and women’s lived experience. The changes experienced during midlife became the catalyst for this shift, revealing a period that felt both destabilising and transformative – one that prompted questions surrounding desire, sexuality, ageing, and a society that continues to render women invisible as they age.
Working across digital and analogue photography, alternative printing processes, AI collaboration, self-portraiture, and installation, I create work that interrogates identity, visibility, and power. Through these varied approaches, my practice questions how women are perceived and where they belong within contemporary society.
