Grace Burns

My piece ‘Subsume’ is a large-scale sculpture/installation that blends metal scaffolding and textiles. The crotchet components appear as living, growing forms with rich textures that absorb the scaffolding, bent and fluid, weighed down by these strange, soft organisms. Through a vibrant and experimental display, metal’s rigidity is contrasted with textiles’ fluidity to provide a multi-faceted, sensory experience. Juxtaposing traditional craftsmanship with modernist aesthetics, the work explores gender dynamics and the body, drawing inspiration from organic forms like mushrooms and moss.
