The work I want to showcase is my graduation work, which is a comfortable outfit for office workers aged 30-40 to wear in formal occasions.
This work is inspired by the blank canvas of Chinese philosophical thought, which is equivalent to the Western principle of less is more. It tells us to learn to leave blank spaces for life or artistic work, to give them some free and imaginative space for themselves. I feel that this freedom and imaginative space should not only be applied to the shape design of clothing, but I would also like to have no gender restrictions defined in my clothing designs, so that wearers have more space and imagination in their clothing choices. In this collation, we will blur the gender characters in the designs and only separate them into different sizes.
My work is inspired by Zen Garden, Photograph of Michael Kenna and Fan Ho, architecture of Tadao Ando and Chinese landscape painting。 These artworks all use the technique of leaving blank space, giving the audience unlimited imagination and echoing my brand name ‘Blank Canvas’.
