Hello! My name is Komal Maheshwari, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about my journey in the world of fashion and textiles. My academic and creative path has been deeply influenced by a passion for both traditional artistry and innovative design.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Fashion and Textile, a field where I discovered the intricate beauty and technical depth of textiles. During my undergraduate studies, I immersed myself in understanding the various aspects of textiles, from the basics of fabric construction to the complexities of pattern design. I learned about the different types of fibers, weaves, dyes, and techniques that give life to the fabrics we wear every day. This foundational knowledge sparked my curiosity and drove me to explore the vast possibilities within the textile industry.

As I moved forward in my academic journey, I pursued a master’s degree where I allowed my imagination to soar. My inspiration for my master’s project came from something as delicate and ephemeral as sea foam. There’s something magical about the way sea foam forms—its ever-changing shapes, its lightness, and its transient nature. This natural phenomenon became the cornerstone of my creative process, influencing my designs with its fluidity, soft textures, and subtle elegance. I wanted my work to reflect the same sense of organic beauty and continuous transformation that sea foam embodies.

However, my journey didn’t stop at just creating aesthetically pleasing designs. I also felt a deep connection to the rich cultural heritage of India, especially the traditional arts of hand embroidery and textile craftsmanship. Indian artisans have a long history of producing some of the most exquisite hand-embroidered textiles in the world. Their dedication, skill, and artistry are truly inspiring. Yet, despite their incredible talents, many of these artisans struggle to gain the recognition and support they deserve in today’s fast-paced, industrialized fashion world.

This realization shaped the next phase of my career. I decided that my mission would be to bring the work of these artisans into the spotlight, showcasing their skills and promoting their craft with confidence and pride. I believe that their traditional techniques can coexist beautifully with contemporary fashion, creating a bridge between the old and the new. By incorporating their work into modern designs, I aim to preserve and promote India’s rich textile heritage while also giving these artisans a platform to thrive.

My work is a fusion of the past and the present, blending the ethereal inspiration of sea foam with the intricate, time-honored techniques of Indian embroidery. It’s about celebrating the beauty of handmade textiles and ensuring that the incredible craftsmanship of Indian artisans continues to be valued and appreciated. Through my designs, I strive to tell a story—one that honors tradition, embraces creativity, and, most importantly, uplifts the artists who keep these traditions alive.
