Designing a space that speaks without words was at the core of my design for Blasted. I reimagined a simple gold stage floor as a storytelling device—contrasting brutalist decay with gold tones to heighten tension.
Throughout the project, I explored themes of identity, resistance, and nationalism, drawing influence from the film Kneecap and incorporating politically charged symbols like the Union Jack to provoke discomfort. My design evolved through material exploration, digital collage inspired by real-world conflict, and model-making guided by David Neat’s principles.
Creative blocks and unexpected setbacks challenged my process, but ultimately deepened my understanding of emotional design, storytelling through space, and adaptability as a theatre designer.
