My practice explores femininity through oil-painted portraits portrayed in muted and soft pastel tones. Influenced by feminist theory, my work interrogates the politics of looking; how women are seen, depicted, and consumed in visual media. I am especially interested in the tension between visibility and concealment.
Within this installation, I employ intentional cropping of faces to direct the viewer’s attention, while simultaneously withholding information. This strategy echoes the intention of the screen divider, both revealing and concealing. By incorporating mirrors into my installation, I expand this exploration. The viewer becomes both observer and participant, inviting them to reflect on their consumption of femininity in the media.
