For all my projects, my inspiration stems deeply from my culture and a commitment to modest fashion. As a Somali girl raised in the UK, I have always cherished my cultural roots and sought to express this heritage in my work. My goal is to achieve the perfect blend of a modern Muslim Somali girl in our generation today, reflecting both my identity and the richness of my background.

Growing up, I often felt that the fashion industry lacked a true representation of modest fashion that resonated with my cultural values. This gap has driven me to create pieces that highlight the elegance and sophistication of modest fashion while celebrating Somali traditions. I want my work to bridge these worlds, showcasing how traditional elements can seamlessly integrate into contemporary styles.

The garments I use in my creations are more than just fabric; they are pieces of my family’s history, carefully preserved and handed down through generations. Each piece tells a story of resilience, beauty, and heritage. By incorporating these traditional Somali garments, I aim to adapt them to suit the tastes and needs of the modern world. This blend of old and new is central to my vision, representing the dynamic and evolving nature of cultural identity.

In my work, I strive to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful. Each piece is crafted with the intention of celebrating my culture and offering a unique perspective on modest fashion. I believe that clothing can be a powerful form of expression, and I want my pieces to tell a story—one that resonates with others who share my background and values.

My aspirations extend beyond just creating beautiful pieces; I aim to make a significant impact in the fashion industry by redefining what modest fashion can be. I want to show that modest fashion is stylish, contemporary, and deeply rooted in cultural heritage. By making a statement with my work, I hope to challenge and expand the industry’s understanding of beauty and fashion, advocating for greater inclusivity and representation.

I envision a future where Muslim women, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, have a real place in the fashion industry. It’s about more than just visibility; it’s about creating opportunities and spaces where our stories, traditions, and styles are celebrated and respected. I want my name and my people to be known not just for our rich culture, but for our contributions to the fashion world.

Through my journey, I hope to inspire other young Somali girls and Muslim women to embrace their identities and pursue their passions. The path may be challenging, but it is also gratifying. By staying true to our roots and pushing the boundaries of what is possible, we can create a fashion landscape that is diverse, inclusive, and reflective of the beautiful tapestry of cultures that make up our world.

In summary, my work is a heartfelt tribute to my Somali heritage and a bold step towards redefining modest fashion. It is an expression of who I am—a proud Somali girl raised in the UK, committed to honouring her culture while making a mark in the modern fashion industry. I desire to create change, foster inclusivity, and ensure that Muslim women have a powerful and enduring presence in the fashion world.
