Irritable Dugong is a picturebook for children that blends humour with an environmental message. The story follows a dugong, an endangered marine mammal, who is disturbed by the loud noises of human activity in the ocean. Through his grumpiness, readers are encouraged to laugh, empathise, and reflect on the impact humans have on marine life.
The project was inspired by the lack of awareness around animal conservation in my home country, particularly for lesser-known endangered species such as dugongs.
By combining playful character design with research into picturebook theory, the project explores how important issues can be communicated through engaging, light-hearted storytelling.
