My practice explores femininity, domestic labour and the expectations placed on women. I work with familiar imagery and materials to examine how ideas of beauty, purity, desirability and domesticity become embedded in everyday life.
My current body of work, Iron Maiden, looks at femininity as an ideal that is inherited, repeated and eventually inhabited. The work considers how social expectations can become deeply personal, shaping our relationship with our bodies, our desires and the roles we occupy.
I primarily work with acrylic paint, creating smooth, highly blended surfaces influenced by the visual language of beauty and cosmetics. I combine the female body with fabric, food, skin-like forms and domestic imagery, creating compositions that move between beauty, sensuality and discomfort.
I am interested in the psychological weight carried by familiar objects and images, and in how they can hold ideas. Through painting, I explore the space between attraction and unease, using the visual language of beauty to examine the pressures that can exist beneath it.
