KANNAGI is a contemporary womenswear collection inspired by the legendary Tamil heroine Kannagi, a symbol of strength, resilience, courage and justice. The collection explores how historical and cultural narratives can be translated into contemporary fashion while maintaining a strong connection to Tamil heritage.
My work combines traditional Indian textile influences with modern silhouettes, creating garments that reflect both cultural identity and contemporary womenswear. The collection draws inspiration from Tamil Nadu’s rich textile history, traditional dress, craftsmanship and visual language. These influences are reinterpreted through fabric manipulation, surface development, embroidery, pleating, printing and considered garment construction.
Sustainability is also an important part of the collection. I explore the use of natural and responsible materials, traditional techniques and thoughtful design approaches to reduce waste and encourage longer-lasting garments. Functionality and versatility are incorporated into the designs, allowing the garments to be adapted and worn in different ways.
Through KANNAGI, I aim to create a dialogue between heritage and modern fashion. Each garment represents a connection between the past and present, transforming cultural storytelling into contemporary design. The collection reflects my personal design identity and my interest in creating meaningful womenswear that celebrates heritage, craftsmanship, individuality and responsible fashion.
