Nordhavens co-working kindergarten responds directly to the reality of families in Copenhagen, aligning social needs with spatial design to create a future solution of a single coherent system responding to issues parents face with traveling to and from work including child drop offs.
Majority of working parents in Copenhagen want their travel to work, including drop off to take no longer than 20-25 mins one way, currently most parents estimate travel to take 35-40 mins each way.
The whole building is designed to be seamless with a zinc facade wrapping around it, using hidden gutters to give a clean ‘doll-house’ look. Solar shading is used for privacy. The roofs, heights and structure were designed to optimise sunlight, restrict harsh winds and fit into the site.
Routes through the building are different for each user, parents, children, toddlers and babies each have a route suited to them, by splitting the building into ‘zones’. Each zone is carefully thought about, having rooms needed for that age group. With other shared areas such as the courtyard.
