Artist Statement
Puja Joshi Singh is a textile artist whose work draws deeply from the rich traditions of Nepalese textiles particularly the iconic Dhaka fabric. Her practice centres on sustainability and cultural heritage, reimagining traditional woven motifs through contemporary screen-printing techniques, that explore the intersection of pattern, texture, and storytelling.
With a foundation in screen printing, dyeing, and digital printing, she recreates the visual language of handwoven textiles in new forms. Each print designed is a study in repetition and rhythm, drawing direct inspiration from cultural Dhaka motifs. Fascinated by how textiles can carry memory, especially how a single pattern can evoke a place, a tradition, or a moment in time, she aims to transform them into wearable prints that speak of identity, heritage of Nepal.
Using carefully selected sustainable materials and methods, she not only preserves cultural heritage but also textile traditions, advocating for mindful making in a rapidly changing world. Her work invites viewers to consider the stories woven into fabric, not just as a design, but as living history, culture and identity of Nepalese heritage.
Through vibrant colour, texture, and pattern, Puja Joshi Singh designs textiles that carry cultural significance, personal meaning. Her primary mission is to craft contemporary, wearable art in the form of Dhaka-inspired scarves and garments that resonate with the next generation.Every piece she creates is a tribute to the generations of hands that have kept these textile traditions alive.
