‘Untouchable Elegance’
As someone from a lower caste background in Nepal, Untouchable Elegance confronts the deeply rooted caste-based discrimination that continues to shape lives across generations. While the caste system and racial discrimination arise from different cultural and historical contexts, they share the same structural foundation systems that judge individuals not for who they are, but for the identities they were born into.
This project is both an act of resistance and a vision for that possible future. Through painting, installation, and material storytelling, I reclaim what was historically denied rituals, symbols, and dignity. I use traditional Nepali utensils, jewellery, and hand gestures in symbolic compositions, reimagining them with contemporary aesthetics. My work is layered with memory, defiance, and hope.
Untouchable Elegance is my way of rewriting the narrative. It offers a space for reflection, dialogue, and recognition for us, for those who came before us, and for those who are yet to come.
