Since the launch of The Wikipedia Adventure (TWA) on English Wikipedia in 2025, a new chapter has opened for medium- and small-sized Wikipedias seeking to engage younger generations in contributing to the free knowledge-sharing ecosystem. For smaller projects such as Thai Wikipedia, where contributor numbers remain limited, TWA offers a potential pathway to lower barriers of entry and attract new editors.
This study examines the impact of gamification and simplified editing procedures on participation in Wikipedia. Specifically, it examines how interactive tutorials, such as TWA, can provide newcomers with both the technical skills and the necessary contextual knowledge, including understanding community policies, editing norms, and collaborative practices, to make meaningful contributions to Thai Wikipedia. By doing so, the project aims to assess the role of gamified learning in fostering sustained youth engagement with the platform.
