Chiaroscura: Fractured Light is a 2D concept art project about Ame – a painter who created a world from her emotions, memories, and grief. Unable to carry the pain of what she had lost, she chose to erase it, but the act left the world fractured, unstable, and drowning in ink.
Ame now travels through this broken realm with Sumi – an ink fox spirit who carries the memories she abandoned. Along the way, she encounters other spirits born from parts of herself, ruined places, and Hollow: a distorted reflection of her deepest grief, and self-destruction.
This project is deeply personal to me. It explores the duality of art: how creating can be healing, but also exhausting and painful. It reflects how art can feel like having the freedom to fly, but your wings are cut short. Through Ame’s journey, I wanted to express the love, pressure, doubt, and vulnerability that can come with being an artist.
