Vikki Denisova

Nikki is a satirical depiction of unconvincing femininity. Using an obviously cheap wig and exaggerated makeup, Denisova’s creation awkwardly focuses on how she is perceived by other people, leading to an inability to complete ‘normal’ tasks. These include ‘finding love’ and ‘preparing a meal’, traditionally feminine acts. The series originates from Denisova’s own experience of feeling the need to overcompensate her femininity and Nikki, her alter ego, is Denisova’s response towards the urge to feel ‘normal’.
