Stagnant spaces in the city often carry traces of historical change and the transitions of time and society. These spaces often have a unique sense of unfinishedness and can become a unique narrative carrier in design.

Using the Xiamen Bashi Fortress site as a research site, this design responds to the intertwining of war relics and contemporary vacant spaces with the theme of ‘Fall and Rebirth’. The design is based on Kevin Lynch’s theory of ‘urban image’, Christian Neuberger-Schultz’s concept of ‘spirit of place’, and Bill Hillier and Julianne Hansen’s theory of spatial syntax, aiming to reshape the perception of history, optimise the organisation of flows, and create multiple temporal and spatial intersections. The aim is to reshape the perception of history, optimise the organisation of flows, and create an interactive experience of multiple temporal and spatial intersections.

The site is divided into five functional zones, combining digital modelling and immersive experiences with scenic views, exhibitions and civic events, turning it into a cultural landmark and public hub that awakens memories and regenerative imaginations of the past.
