Hey, we’re the team behind the short film Standing Ovation and we’ve all been working really hard to bring this film to you. Our team is a small crew of immensely talented people who throughout the whole filming process have worked together to tell a story about a crippling fear of failure, self sabotage, and isolation.
We wanted to tell a story in a post covid time about agoraphobia and how all-encompassing fears can be, as we started to explore these ideas we uncovered other themes that influenced our work, especially the relationship between the performer and the artist, who depends on the other more?
We wanted to examine the creative process and the pressures that we can put on ourselves when we care so deeply about what people think of us and our work and how this can negatively affect the psyche.
We were inspired by many different horror genres mainly; camp horror films from 1970s Japan, surrealist artworks, and different national theatre plays. We researched old theatre techniques and designs to make the world feel authentic.
