I see too much of the Matilda effect in my daily life, whether it’s the double standards of gender in the news media or the alteration of female archetypes to male on television. All these phenomena make me feel indignant.

I wanted my work to critically present the neglect of women in society and to use a pixelated visual approach to represent this. I have deconstructed and extracted elements such as Nü Shu (a uniquely female script created by women in ancient China.) and surname as a source of inspiration.

Pixelated photos of me, my mom, my grandmother, surrounded by pieces of fabric. The reason why I chose these materials is because at the time of the creation of Nü Shu women did not have access to pen and paper so woman wrote with what was around them.

I pixelated pictures of me, my mom, my grandma. Surrounded by Chenille Stem, with our different surnames written in Nü Shu on the top. I got the idea because we're the closest people to each other by blood, but we have different last names.
