I specialise in graphic design, with a background in filmmaking, and I’m particularly interested in how visual communication shapes meaning and influences what we see. My approach is concept-led. I am drawn to work that starts with an idea or a question, then develops through design into something clear, direct, and thought-provoking. I’m motivated by curiosity and a desire to challenge what feels normal or accepted, especially within media and communication.

My final project, unedited, explores how language is edited, filtered, and sometimes removed before it reaches an audience. It looks at the role of media, institutions, and digital platforms in shaping what is allowed to be seen or said. Rather than focusing on what is visible, the project highlights what is missing. I used redaction, absence, and bold, confrontational text to make this clear, often presenting incomplete or disrupted messages that encourage the viewer to question what has been taken away.

The work is designed to feel familiar at first. I took inspiration from advertising, public notices, and editorial layouts, using structured typography and recognisable formats so the designs feel official or believable. From there, I begin to interfere with them, removing words, blocking out sections, or interrupting the flow of information. This creates a tension between what looks approved and what has been altered, reflecting the way communication is controlled in real life.

unedited exists as a public-facing campaign rather than a single outcome. It includes posters and billboards, a printed monthly publication, a website, and experiments with placing work in everyday spaces like projection. I was interested in how context changes meaning, so presenting the work in environments usually associated with authority, such as public advertising spaces, became an important part of the project. It allowed the message to sit within systems it is also questioning.

My influences come from a mix of street-level visual culture and editorial design. I often take inspiration from things I see day to day, like street art, adverts, and public messaging. I am particularly drawn to bold typography and simple layouts that communicate quickly but leave a lasting impression. At the same time, I am interested in how design systems can feel neutral or controlled, and how that neutrality can be challenged.

Overall, my work aims to encourage people to pause and think more critically about the information they consume. I am interested in design that does more than just communicate, something that questions, disrupts, and opens up conversation.
