I chose the composition of a wildfire consuming a forest to symbolise the effects of global warming and to emphasise the fragility of nature. Whilst creating this piece I became quite introspective, especially when painting the charred areas because I was purposely ‘ruining’ something that I did not want to ruin. As climate change transforms our world, I believe we should appreciate its beauty, without disregarding the ‘ugly’ reality, either – a sentiment I hope to communicate through this piece.
