The Vineyard Village For Workers & Visitors.
This project explores the design of seasonal housing for vineyard workers in Chilham, Kent, within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). As climate change continues to make southern England increasingly viable for wine production, this project addresses the intersection of agricultural growth and rural housing needs.
The proposal seeks to create flexible residential units that accommodates seasonal vineyard workers during growing and harvest periods but transitions into holiday homes during the off-season. This dual-purpose use responds both to the practical demands of viticulture labour and to the economic opportunity presented by rural tourism in wine-producing regions.
Through its exploration of temporary housing and adaptive reuse, the project proposes a design that supports agricultural activities, economic diversification and cultural identity in the English countryside.
