In a world in which we spend most of our time online I wanted to create something that would bring people together again, and encourage collective learning, so in answer to the ISTD brief “A Type Specimen for the Future” I opted to create nine designs inspired by the history of my chosen typeface, Avant Garde, and in the bright and vibrant colours of the Avant Garde Magazine. I cut the nine designs into four sections and separated each one of these into four folders, creating four type specimens in total. This way, the narrative can only be understood by bringing all the folders together. This separation creates a puzzle-like game that invites the holders to interact and play with the type specimens, allowing them to learn more about the Avant Garde characteristics.
