Angst of a Material Body 2026

Understanding the body as base material suggest that we exist in dirty bodies. The commodification of the dirty body has been commercialized by a capitalist system for profit. Exiting in the realm of the visceral allows us to take a step back from how we need to perceive our visceral world, forcing you  to submit to our own viceral mortality. Disgust has been both our entry (vilified sexual procreation and the process of labour) and our exit (the decaying body).  The body is an active agent in producing waste and dirt playing with the ideas of Mary Douglas “There is no such thing as absolute dirt: it exists in the eye of the beholder”.

Existing as a cleaner, I perceive the existence of dirt as a kin. That which offer me work, but also something I feel connected to through a material body. Completed with contrasting metal, the repugnant sculpture takes on the form of a static waterfall.
